A high school recitation contest in its 11th year, Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the Wisconsin Arts Board, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation of Chicago.  It awards thousands of dollars each year including a $20,000 award for the national champion, $300 for the top two participants in each state and $700 to their high schools. Each state and territory in the US holds state contests.  To date, POL has involved 2.7 million students across the country.  In Wisconsin, schools from Superior to Green Bay to Durand to Milwaukee have participated.
